Naturally Effective

The advent of natural supplements has raised awareness of some of the dangerous long-term effects of various pharmaceuticals and over-the-counter medications, and an emphasis on a more sustainable and healthy alternative to managing personal health. While it is no secret that over the counter pain medication can have negative effects on your health over time, let’s focus on one of the most used products available on the market: ibuprofen.

Ibuprofen falls into a category of medication known as NSAIDs or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and is commonly used to treat various conditions such as headaches, arthritis, muscle aches, and pain from carpal tunnel syndrome. Its effectiveness is undeniable, but the health risks that follow regular or excessive use may outweigh the benefits. Ibuprofen has been linked to side effects such as nausea, indigestion, vomiting, and most severely, bleeding and ulcers in the stomach. It has also been linked to a higher likelihood of kidney damage and heart failure, with other painkillers such as aspirin and naproxen sodium yielding similar risks. In comparison, our Pain formula is manufactured with long term health effects in mind, with five primary ingredients coming together: corydalis, curcuma, frankincense, myrrh, and ultra-micronized PEA (see last week’s blog for a brief history on the subject).

Corydalis, also known as corydalis turtschaninovia or yan hu suo, is the primary herb used in our Pain formula. It contains over 160 compounds, including various alkaloids, organic acids and volatile oils, and is particularly helpful in treating abdominal pain. It also contains an alkaloid that can help with sleep. Frankincense and myrrh (also known as ru xiang and mo yao respectively), have been commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat pain from physical trauma such as broken bones and sprained ankles, and curcuma longa (also known as turmeric) is widely used due to its anti-inflammatory qualities. Finally, as mentioned in last week’s blog, ultra-micronized palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) has been known to bind nerve cells to reduce pain, as well as contain anti-inflammatory qualities of its own. All five of these ingredients come together to create a supplement greater than the sum of its parts without any dangerous side effects.
