The basis for the following formula is Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang as it appears in Li Dong-yuan’s Pi Wei Lun (Treatise on the Spleen & Stomach). Ingredients have been added based on Bob Flaws’s research and clinical experience.

CHINESE MEDICINE DIAGNOSIS: Beng lou (flooding and leaking), jing xing guo duo (excessive menstruation), jing xing xian qi (early menstruation), hua tai (slippery fetus) 

PATTERN DISCRIMINATION: Spleen-kidney yang vacuity, liver depression qi stagnation with depressive heat, and blood stasis. 

THERAPEUTIC ACTIONS: Fortifies the spleen and boost the qi, supplements the kidneys and invigorates yang, courses the  liver and resolves depression, clears heat and quickens the blood, stops bleeding 

This formula treats excessive or pathological uterine bleeding due to a combination of spleen qi  vacuity, kidney yang vacuity, liver depression, depressive heat, and blood stasis. Women with this  scenario have bad PMS, early menstruation, and profuse menstruation. They may be diagnosed  with either functional uterine bleeding or uterine myoma. Often, they have luteal phase  deficiency infertility or progesterone insufficiency habitual miscarriage. This formula addresses all  of these conditions. Typically, this scenario occurs in women from 35-55 years of age.
